About KNCCI

Overview

Building Businesses.
Building Communities.

KNCCI was established as a non-profit organization on 22 January 2014 with a purpose of enabling the growth of industries from small scale to large ones in Tamil Nadu. To do so foreign investment not only in terms of finance but also technology and work culture that would help companies to thrive in tough conditions too is necessary. KNCCI would work towards enhancing India-Japan trade ties and woo investments in Tamil Nadu.

Japanese business is a culture of resilience with respect for tradition and core skills & customer service despite the limitations in space and resources caused by numerous disasters. This has made Japanese companies thrive with the society, in word and practice. 33000 Japanese companies are more than 100 years old, referred to as “Shinise” (輝く), which in English means “Shop of longstanding”. A key success factor of a ‘Shinise’ is its suppliers.

The business concept of “Keiretsu” (けいれつ) which means a set of firms with shared businesses and shareholdings anchored by a mothership company. This concept of Keiretsu further reinforced our decision to partner with Japan because Tamil Nadu accounts for the largest number of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the country. Currently 15.07 % with 6.89 lakhs registered MSMEs are producing over 8,000 varieties of product for a total investment of more than Rs.32, 008 crores.

India’s first Shinise investment was Suzuki, established in 1909. It is a matter of pride that a facility of Motherson Sumi a supplier to Maruti is located at Kancheepuram. Motherson, once a small-time New Delhi based wiring manufacturer is today a global automotive component maker with revenue of $9 billion through a partnership with Japan’s Sumitomo Wiring Systems. There are many such success stories.

On those basis, KNCCI started conducting seminars, networking, business education and assistance programmes, government and industry forums, social events and charitable activities. Evolving with time to meet the expectations of the stakeholders, we at KNCCI have revised our vision, mission, initiated a five-year plan and new set of sector-specific initiatives besides carrying out the existing ones.

From this year onwards we will be aligning all our services to sustainable development. This is because sustainable development has become the most vital parameter for any organisation across sectors to thrive. An organisation plays vital role in its society’s growth. The relationship with the society is dynamic and with the current globalization irrespective of the socio-economic strata, speed of change is inevitable. We will encompass Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India) initiative of Government of India in our activities together with initiatives like Digital India among others.
